Virtual Student Gallery
I am absolutely blessed to have such wonderful young artists within my classroom year after year. Students are always encouraged to give everything they have through effort, self-expression, and creativity. In our classroom, we strive to create a culture of respect and positivity that is conducive to promote learning and artistic growth.
Mixed Media Collaged Portrait Project (2D2 Studio Art)
Pop Art Bobblehead Project (3D1 Studio Art)
3D1 Studio Artists in Action and locked in! Let's gooooooooooooooo!!!!
In art, students are always planning, adapting, improvising, overcoming problems, expressing themselves and their ideas, collaborating, and just plain creating new things. They are continually critiquing their work, the work of their peers, and the works of other artists. They are learning to reflect and think creatively to find their 'visual' voice through a variety of media and techniques. They are not just students; they are ALL artists!
Wax Resist "Woven" Painting Project (2D2 Studio Art)
"Always Watching You" Animal Relief Carving Project (3D1 Studio Art)
Yikes! Take a look at the cat's eye's. He's watching you!!! These projects were created using a high density carving foam, acrylic paint, and other materials, such as polymer clay, felt, buttons, etc. They eyes were 'incused' into the sculpture which creates the illusion that they're following you around. Kind of creepy, but really cool. Students had fun with creating some dark(ish) themes, but what can you expect from middle schoolers:)
In 2D1 Studio Art, our core focus is learning about the elements of art, principles of design, basic color theory, art history, terms, techniques, and different media. This forms the foundation for students when they take 2D2 and 3D1 Studio Art.

What's in Your Imagination?
This massive painting, created on a 48"x48" canvas, was the work of an 8th grade 2D2 Studio Art Student. This was his final project of the year, an independent based project. It sits in our school's administration office and serves to inspire all the parents, teachers, and students who pass through.

Empty Bowls Fundraiser 2024
7th and 8th grade students in 3D1 Studio Art partnered with the West Volusia Empty Bowls Fundraiser. The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money for shelters and food pantries. These are critical resources for those who are in need of food and shelter. This partnership gives our students the opportunity to make a difference in our community while honing their art skills.
Pablo Picasso Inspired Self-Portraits using Cubism and multiperspective. After learrning about early Cubism and artists such as Braque and Picasso, our students did an amazing job capturing, expressing, and visually communicating their personal identities through the use of oil pastels.
(2D1 Studio Art)
Batiq Style Abstract Art. Students used a transfer and wax resist technique to create these symmetrically colorful works. Each design incorporates the students' name. This project is always popular as it's messy, spontaneous, and the results are quite wonderful!
Our Ivy Hawn Art Club students finished up the year by creating a wonderful display for our school. Each one of these students helped to not only make our project a success, but also contributed to creating a welcoming environment filled with collaboration, respect, and positivity. Also, thank you to the parents and those who partnered with our club. Together, we can achieve anything!
Spiral Art Assignments created with marker. This was our first project of the year. Students learned about value, contrast, and leading lines. It's always nice to start off the year with a confidence builder, especially a colorful one that we can decorate our hallway with.

Architectural Landmark Ink and Watercolor Project.
(2D2 Studio Art)
Students chose a landmark from a part of the world that they were interested in and created fline contour drawings. They then used a wet-on-wet technique to create a loose and expressive watercolor painting. This project required students to research their chosen landmark and write a short essay about it, along with the country it is found in.
Portrait Drawings
(2D2 Studio Art)
Students were able to choose to either draw a figure from popular culture (called Pop Art) or a self-portrait. These take approximately one month to complete, depending on the speed of each artist. During the course of this project we focus on proportion, shading, value, and advanced drawing techniques.

Advanced Still Life Bottle Drawing Project (2D2 Studio Art) During this project students took on the tedious task of not only drawing every single reflection and highlight, but also the text that was printed on the lables of each bottle. This project took over a month for most students, but was crucial to taking their art skills to the next level! |
